“PHAZZE ONE” Formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter-producer, "Donald Bell AKA “Donnie B”,"PHAZZE ONE" emerge on the scene with a musical force that could only be described as one fan put it, “Electrifying.” Those early performances quickly started to create a buzz around the Los Angeles area. This positive reaction brought them to the attention of several club owners and promoters, creating more opportunities for them to perform at various clubs, private events, weddings and other venues. While captivating audiences performing a variety of Old School Hits, Jazz, R&B, Top-40, Reggae, Pop, Blues and Hip-Hop. Their versatility made them one of the best live bands around. The professionalism that surrounds this band can only be attributed to the individual talent that each member possesses. The members of “PHAZZE ONE” include: Lamont Johnson (Bass Player) - Originallyfrom Berkeley, California, Lamont begin studying classical trombone at an early age, and soon after, started playing for the school orchestra and jazz band. After expressing an interest in the bass guitar to his instructor, he decided to give it a try, and the rest; as they say, is history. He took the bass by storm, and from then until now, has never looked back. After playing for several local bands, he landed a part on the hit television series, “Soul Beat. Where his dedication and professionalism quickly earned him the respect of his peers, known as one of the most solid bass players around, his early influences included: The Jackson Five, Earth Wind & Fire, Verdine White, Stanley Clark, Marvin Gaye, Jermaine Jackson, Bobby Watson and James Jameson. Lariland Jardon (Vocalist) -Born in the Los Angeles, but raised in Compton California, Lariland comes from a very musical family, Her mother and siblings are strongly involved in the R&B and Gospel fields. She received her musical start at the tender age of five, so it was no surprise when she followed in her family’s footsteps. While studying music at ComptonCityCollege, early in her career, there was no doubt that she would become one of the most distinctive vocalists around with a style that’s unique and powerful.Lariland’s professional career dates as far back as 1984,when she was signed to Interscope Records. Since then she has established an impressive track record in the entertainment industry performing with such notables as, Coolio, Jewel, Christopher Williams, and Dr. Dre. And Ice-T. Some of her early influences include: The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Earth Wind & Fire, Teena Marie, Rachelle Farrell, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Gladys Knight. Kevin Wiggs (Drummer) - Born in Los AngelesCalifornia, Kevin starting playing drums at an early age. His first professional position as a drummer was with the youth choir at his church. He has since played with a countless number of choirs throughout the Los Angeles area. His talent has afforded him the opportunity to play with gospel greats! Such as, Andre & Sandra Crouch, the O'Neal Twins, and also, R&B legends, Roy Ayers and Freddie Hubbard.Some of his influences include Billy Mitchell and Joe Sample. Kevin currently conducts music workshops and private drum lessons for individuals of all ages. David Jefferson (Keyboard Player) - originally fromQueens, NY, David’s musical endeavors began when he was exposed to the drums at the tender age of 5, but the drums would soon have to take a back seat once he was introduced to the piano. Classically trained by the age of 15, his love for the piano started to flourish even more, although he played and excelled at the trombone in his junior high school’s Big Band. After graduating from M.I.T. with a degree in engineering, there was no doubt that Playing R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Latin Rock, Funk and Pop would soon become his forte. Although he’s been involved in several major projects, and is in his own right an accomplished songwriter-producer. Some of his heavier influences and musical idols are The Jackson five, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, L.A Reid and Baby face, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Teena Marie, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, and Chante Moore. Ollie Rasbury (Vocalist) -Born and raised in Kinston, North Carolina, Ollie is a no-nonsense performer, who begin singing at a very early age. A small, but powerful songstress who brings along with her many vocal skills, the highest level of musicianship and professionalism, sheleaves no stone unturned when it comes to her creative endeavors. While studying music at the University of North Carolina and the Hartford school of music were she earned her master degree, she began polishing her acting skills as well, appearing in a number of successful stages plays and yes, leaving her mark on whatever stage she sets her feet on. She’s performed with such notables as, Carl Andersen, Edwin Hawkins, Phyllis Hyman, Doc Powell, Della Reese, and Mavis Staples, to name a few. Her musical influences include, Roberta Flack, Phyllis Hyman, Rachelle Farrell, Patti Austin and Minnie Ripperton. Rod Webb (Guitar Player) -originally fromMonterey, California, Rob grew up with a deep love for music. He received his first instruction at an early age, thereby creating that spark for the guitar. In the mid 1990's, Rod moved to Los Angeles, were He studied music at Cal State Northridge under some of the best professors in the field. Known as a fiery, versatile, and enthusiastic musician, Rod is by far one the funkiest guitar players around, and because of his training, is well-versed in playing, classical, funk, rock, pop, blues, and folk music. While still playing with several local bands, in the summer of 2005, Rod was chosen to be lead guitarist for the Troubadour Theater Company's production of "Hamlet": Rod cites Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan as his primary influences. Donald Bell (Vocalist & Founder) -Born in Los Angeles but raised in Watts, California. The youngest of six children, Donald began singing at the tender age of eight, even then showing a vocal presence beyond his years. Raised in the church and part of a musical family, it wasn’t long before he started playing the piano and writing songs for himself and other local entertainers. A Music Major in college, his rapid understanding of musicianship and theory quickly grabbed the attention of the schools elite Golden Harmony singers, of which he was made a member. Because of this appointment he had the opportunity to share the stage with such noteworthy performers as, Paul Anka and Tom Jones to name a few. After a long stint of writing for and producing artist for several record labelsas well as writing jingles for major companies, Donald released his first single entitled, “The worlds need Love” he then followed it up with the long awaiting CD project, “Life Stories”, which was well received here in the States and over seas. Also a talented actor, and the lead singer for the legendary funk Band “Slave” who had several gold and platinum records during the late 70’s and early 80’s, Donald also appeared in several Movies & T.V shows including, Lethal Weapon 3, Barb Wire, Marshall Law, Coach, “ER”, Chicago Hope, and “Eddie” staring Whoopie Goldberg. He has been influenced by an array of well-known artists such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Earth Wind and Fire, The Gap Band, The Jackson Five, the Bee Gee’s, The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Black Ice, New Edition and Aretha Franklin just to name a few. |
